Erectile Dysfunction

Physical Mental Causes for ED
The mind and body have to work together for great marital sex. Emotional, financial or relationship problems can either cause or worsen a man’s case of ED

It doesn’t matter how much money you’ve made or if you’ve climbed to the top of Mt. Everest WITHOUT oxygen, you ain’t worth a damn if you can’t get it up and keep it up with your woman.

Sounds harsh doesn’t it?
It is. But no matter what anyone tells you to the contrary, I guarantee that those sentiments will run through your mind when you experience failure in the bedroom.

Now I, and plenty of psychologists can tell you that it doesn’t make you any less of a man to have an occasional misfire, but I know that won’t do any good. You just want the problem to be fixed.
Sounds harsh doesn’t it?
So let’s look at what causes erectile dysfunction and what can be done about it.

Physical Causes for ED

The three main problems that can lead to ED are:
  1. Not enough blood flow to the penis.
Blood flow is most often restricted by the hardening of the arteries, better known as atherosclerosis. Diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and cigarette smoking have all been linked to atherosclerosis, which can ultimately lead to ED.
  1. The penis’ inability to store blood during an erection.
In order for an erection to ‘hold’ the penis must be able to store the blood pumped into it to make it rigid. Doctors call this problem a venous leak and can occur to any man at any age.
  1. The penis doesn’t get the message.
Literally. The message that comes from the brain to get an erection never reaches its destination. This can be caused by Parkinson’s disease, spinal cord injuries, multiple sclerosis or injuries to the penile nerves.

Psychological Causes for ED

In order for any activity to take place the mind and body have to work together and this includes sex. Emotional, financial or relationship problems can either cause or worsen a man’s case of ED.
Some of these problems can include:

            • Depression
            • Conflict in the relationship
            • Financial hardship
            • Stress at home or work
            • Anxiety about sexual performance

Medicinal Causes for ED

There are plenty of medications that we take to treat everything from high blood pressure to runny noses that can cause erectile dysfunction.

In addition to the number of prescription drugs there are plenty of illegal drugs that can lead to problems in getting it up too. Drugs like marijuana, cocaine and heroin are among the most common culprits for ED.

Even alcohol can lead to sexual problems, but thankfully, it’s usually not permanent. Take away the booze and the boner usually comes back.

ED – The Good News

If you’re suffering from this problem there’s tons of good news for you. The first is that you’re not alone. All men have episodes of ED in their lives whether they admit it or not.

The second piece of good news is that ED is not something that men have to suffer in silence with. There are plenty of treatment options available to get your soldier to stand at attention when duty calls.

The first step is to determine if your problem is merely episodic or if it’s chronic. Episodic ED is happens to every guy and only occurs every now and again. You can still see a doctor about it if you want, but it’s a fact of life so accept it and move on.

If your problem is chronic, or is ongoing, then you’re going to want to see your doctor so he can determine what the cause is and advise you in a treatment program.

You’ve seen all the commercials for Viagra and Cialis on TV, and while these are fine, they’re not always necessary. Only your doctor can tell for sure.
Now, I can tell you that there’s no reason to let that crazy organ rule over your life, but I’m a guy too and I know how it is. So, if Mr. Happy isn’t so…well happy, then don’t suffer with it. Go see your doctor, find out what’s wrong, get it fixed, and then get back in the saddle.
