ED Medication
Viagra, Levitra, and Cialis:best ED drugs, benefits, pros and cons, non-prescription drug Enzyte
For years erectile dysfunction was a problem that men suffered with in silence. But now, there’s more information available as to what causes ED and the number of medications for dealing with this problem continues to grow.
We’re going to take a look at the three most prescribed ED drugs – Viagra, Levitra, and Cialis - and weigh their pros and cons. We’ll also take a look at the non-prescription drug Enzyte and see how it stacks up.
As always, your doctor should determine what’s best for your situation, but at least you’ll have some knowledge about what to expect before you see your physician.
Viagra
Viagra was approved by the FDA in 1998 and quickly became the leading medication for dealing with ED as well as the source of more than a few jokes.
Viagra works by delaying the actions of enzymes called phosphodiesterase, which helps blood to drain from the penis. By stopping the blood from draining, men are able to maintain an erection for longer periods of time.
The benefit of this drug is that it can be taken up to four hours before intercourse while still remaining effective.
In addition, most of the side effects associated with Viagra are relatively mild and include: headaches, nasal congestion and upset stomach after eating.
One of the major drawbacks of Viagra is that sex usually has to be planned and loses much of the spontaneity, which can be more disappointing for your partner than for you.
Levitra
Levitra works much like Viagra, but with an added benefit. It not only keeps blood in the penis once an erection is achieved, it loosens the muscles of the penis and increases blood flow, which can help you get an erection in the first place.
Levitra shares the same downside as Viagra in that you have to take it about an hour before intercourse. It also shares much of the same side effects, which are generally mild.
Cialis
This drug is relatively new on the market and takes the best of Viagra and Levitra and adds an important element – time.
Cialis works in much the same way as the other ED drugs do, but allows the user to remain ‘active’ for up to 36 hours after taking. This translates into sex that doesn’t have to be scheduled and allows more freedom for couples to let romance take its natural course.
The downside to Cialis is that it comes with a few more possible side effects than the other meds. These include: headache, upset stomach, back and muscle pain and dizziness.
In addition, sudden loss of eyesight is rare, but still a potential problem associated with Cialis. There are other meds on the market that can be used to treat ED, but these three are at the top of the chain right now. But what about non-prescription drugs?
Enzyte
I’m sure you’ve seen the commercials with Bob and his big…smile. He’s happy, his wife is happy and his neighbors are all jealous. But what’s up with Enzyte?
First off, Enzyte isn’t generally used to treat ED. It’s more of an ‘enhancement’ product. Simply put, it’s designed to make you bigger.
Enzyte is not a synthetic drug, but rather a mix of natural herbs and other proprietary ingredients that are said to increase blood flow to the penis to make your erection as firm and as large as possible.
Because Enzyte isn’t classified as a drug it doesn’t have to be regulated by the FDA and so users are advised to take this at their own risk. As with any enhancement pill or device, the results are pretty much all over the map.
According to the company, there aren’t much in the way of side effects associated with taking Enzyte, however one of its components – Yohimbe Extract – can pose problems for those being treated for high blood pressure.
The bottom line is if you’re experiencing any problems with ED you need to talk to your doctor to discuss all of your options. You may just find out that your troubles lie in your head – the one on your shoulders – and don’t require anything more than some stress relief.
